Support for loved ones, for families, for life.
Benslow Dementia Care Model
At Benslow we have developed a unique care model to ensure our team are able to support residents and their families as they navigate their dementia journey.
A unique care package
-
Benslow have specialised in caring for people with Dementia for over 20 years. We are committed to providing person centred care in accordance with our Dementia care standards, which were developed in line with the Alzheimer’s Society’s person-centred approach as published in ‘Quality Dementia Care in care homes’ (2005).
-
We practice a person centred approach to care. Our focus is on the individual as a whole person rather then the condition. We aim to recognise their uniqueness, strengths and abilities rather than their losses and failures.
-
All of our staff are enrolled on the Benslow dementia care pathway. Designed by a mental health nurse to train and mentor our care team. The pathway equips them with practical skills and knowledge to maintain our person centred philosophy. Staff are able to reflect and develop their skills and knowledge through training, mentorship and peer review.
-
Hertfordshire county council have awarded “Dementia Accreditation” to 2 of our residential Dementia homes and Bedfordshire county council have awarded “Dementia Quality Mark” for delivering good quality dementia care over and above the county standard.
Help me to understand
-
Dementia refers to a number of conditions that affect how the cells in the brain are working. When brain cells are damaged some skills and functions are ‘lost’, meaning people may start to rely on other senses, ones that are less conciously controlled but just as powerful, for example instinct rather than rational thought or reasoning.
-
For some people, personality traits that your friends and family expect from you, change causing you to behave in a way that is unusual and sometimes even intimidating. For some memory can start to become unreliable, simple tasks that are made up of a series of steps become impossible as you struggle to recall short term connections.
-
At Benslow we know that changes like this can be scary, so we will guide you and your loved ones through these complex changes. We have a huge wealth of experience and have helped hundreds of people over the years so can offer advice and reassurance throughout.
Its important to remember that no two journeys are the same and dementia is progressive. This means that things change from one day to the next and sometimes even quicker.
We will always keep your loved ones informed about any changes. We will review and update your care plan and care package as required.
-
We will work with you so that we can ensure your needs are met with dignity and discretion.
So even though things won’t go back to how they were, you and your loved ones can adjust and enjoy the time you spend together.
You’re in good company, we won’t let you down.
